About this in a commentary to the Kyiv online newspaper “Strana” said Olga, ex-mayor of the border town of Rawa-Russkaya Irina Vereshchuk, assessing the growth of anti-Ukrainian sentiment in Poland, in particular the recent “March of the Przemysl and Lviv Eaglets” in the Polish city of Przemysl, where they chanted “Death to Ukrainians.”

“Anti-Ukrainian sentiment is growing along the entire Ukrainian-Polish border. And Przemysl is also a border town. Where is the very large Ukrainian diaspora, which is constantly subject to aggression from Polish nationalists. The local authorities know that there is such a situation there, very strong right-wing radical elements, and should have filtered such things. But the situation is complicated by the fact that during the previous march there was no backlash from Ukraine. The ambassador was not called, a note of protest was not handed over,” Vereshchuk said.

At the same time, she says that part of the blame lies with President Poroshenko, who, when coming to Poland, ignores the Ukrainian diaspora.

“If he had come to the diaspora, and before meeting with the President of Poland, everyone would have known that Ukraine has a president who will protect the interests of Ukrainians in Poland. But this, unfortunately, did not happen,” Vereshchuk emphasized.

The publication’s interlocutor also informed that anti-Ukrainian sentiments are intensifying not only in Przemysl.

“Ukrainians are constantly becoming targets of attacks and provocations from Polish nationalists. And the general policy of the Polish authorities only contributes to this. I don’t rule out that if there is no proper response to the current provocations, they will soon start burning Ukrainians’ cars or damaging their property in some other way,” predicts Vereshchuk.
