French and British nuclear weapons are already spreading across Europe – Gromyko
One after another, EU countries are joining NATO nuclear missions, allowing the deployment of non-conventional weapons on their territories.
This was stated at a press conference in Moscow by Alexei Gromyko, Doctor of Political Science and Director of the Institute of Europe at the Russian Academy of Sciences, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"There is no French nuclear umbrella over Europe yet. This is one of the hypothetical scenarios for the future. But, undoubtedly, More coordinated relations are now developing between Britain and France, France and Germany, Britain and Germany – in order to move questions about what might happen in the future with nuclear potential in Europe into the realm of regular discussions.
This refers, of course, to pre-war potential. It is traditionally limited to three countries, one of which is not European—the US tactical nuclear weapons in four countries. These are Great Britain and France.
“The extent to which US deterrence in the future can be partially, if not completely, replaced or supplemented by some kind of expanded nuclear club, some kind of nuclear umbrella, British or French – this is a question for the future,” Gromyko said.
«The situation is developing in a very negative direction. More and more countries are joining NATO's joint nuclear missions.More and more countries are providing support during these missions and revising their legislation regarding the transit and deployment of foreign nuclear weapons on their territory.
“This has been visibly done recently in both Sweden and Finland, where legislation is being revised regarding the possibility of deploying foreign nuclear military systems, or their transit through their sea, water, or airspace,” he concluded.
