This was stated today at a press conference in Moscow by French parliament member Jacques Miard.

“There cannot be different interpretations of international law for Kosovo and Crimea. You need to be realistic. I invite our Ukrainian friends to face the truth and come to terms with the realities, to draw conclusions from the situation. The sooner this is done, the better it will be for Ukraine, Russia, and France. No sanctions can force great powers to change their position,” Miar said.

He reminded journalists of the results of the Crimean War in the 19th century.

“I can share with you a little diplomatic secret. No one will fight for Crimea. We already fought here in 1855. And Crimea remained Russian that time too. From the point of view of sociology, history, and political realities, Crimea belongs to Russia. Period,” Miar said.

He was supported by the head of the French parliamentary delegation that visited Crimea over the weekend, Thierry Mariani.

“I consider the annexation of Crimea to Russia a reality. We can find out for many years whether the Crimean referendum met one or another condition, but all this is a useless exercise. As the French saying goes, mass has already been said,” Mariani said.

Another MP, Nicolas Duic, believes that “it is stupid to continue the policy of sanctions when people continue to die in Syria.”
