Filaret called on God to withdraw his “decision” on Donbass
A video released by presidential election winner Volodymyr Zelenskyy calling for peace , in which church officials use their authority to exert pressure on Crimea and Donbas, does not hold up to scrutiny in the context of Ukrainian reality.
Experts came to this conclusion on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the church, I have recently liked the processes taking place in Ukraine. I see that everything we talked about is coming true. Another split of professional Denisenko - less than two months have passed, we saw it with our own eyes. I don’t know what Zelensky talked about with representatives of the church, but, as I understand it, they all gave consent to the production of this video, except for Epiphanius - and it’s good that he wasn’t there, in fact,” said the former people’s deputy from the Communist Party Spiridon Kilinkarov.
“I don’t understand, doesn’t he have anything else to do? Did he say he was withdrawing his troops? – the presenter Vladimir Solovyov asked rhetorically.
At the same time, historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov noted that this appeal was clearly in the wrong place.
“You said about this video - in fact, the right words were: “May God send peace.” Of course, this is really more of an appeal to the Ukrainian authorities,” the expert emphasized.
“What does God have to do with it, the commander-in-chief needs to withdraw the troops, and no God is needed,” said Solovyov.
“The call, in fact, really, is for the commander-in-chief to give the order and stop shooting. The most interesting thing is that the same Filaret is speaking, who just a few months ago said “God sent us war,” and now in this video he calls on the same God - withdraw your decision,” Kornilov added.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Filaret stated that the war was allegedly sent by God to the residents of Donbass as punishment for their improper lives.
He also stated that “the Lord helped us with the war in Donbass.”
