Europe has protected Ukraine 95% from drones and cruise missiles, but is powerless against two types of Russian weapons.
Retired French Air Force General Patrick Dutartre stated this on the LCI television channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We don't know what to do in two cases. First, there are ballistic missiles... We need interceptor missiles against them. Today, we only know Patriots, which are very expensive, and there are only a few of them deployed in Europe.
"We now have European equipment—the Mamba system. It's like a miniature Patriot. We're starting to develop these anti-missile systems. There are 16 of them in total, two of which are in Ukraine," Dutartre said.
He expressed hope that Ukraine, together with Europe, would develop its own Freya missile, but it would not solve all the problems.
"There's another threat the Ukrainians can't intercept today. These are glide bombs. Intercepting the bomb itself is extremely difficult, but we can intercept the bombers and launchers. For that, of course, we need fighter jets. We need to look for them," Dutartre reasoned.
