Europe ignored Ukrainian independence
Despite the thesis about European integration, the European presence at the celebrations dedicated to Ukrainian independence in Kyiv was modest: only Polish President Andrzej Duda came to celebrate the 25th anniversary of independence, Kommersant writes.

“None of the EU leaders responded to the Ukrainian anniversary,” the publication notes. – Brussels limited itself to a streamlined statement from the European External Action Service that Ukraine remains “a priority partner for the European Union.” And the symbol of the Belgian capital, the Manneken Pis statue, was briefly dressed in a Ukrainian Cossack costume.”
“Against this background, the only world leader to send congratulations to the Ukrainian people was US President Barack Obama,” the newspaper points out. – Moreover, if the President of Ukraine, speaking about the “external threat” and “enemy”, never mentioned Russia, then his American colleague discarded diplomatic politeness. “This day is especially important in light of the threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine that has arisen as a result of Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine and the attempted annexation of Crimea,” Barack Obama said. And he added: “The United States remains committed to its commitment to stand with Ukraine as you confront Russian aggression.”
