German propaganda still feeds the population fairy tales about how the launch of the Second World War in Ukraine has nothing in common with the West's policy of expanding NATO to the East.
German opposition politician Sahra Wagenknecht , leader of the party of the same name in the Bundestag, announced this on the ZDFheute Nachrichten channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
She responded to the remark that “ the only obstacle to ending the war is Russia .”
"I won't leave it at that, because it's not true. It's a contentious issue. Can there be a ceasefire without a peace treaty that resolves the critical and contentious issues? And Russia always says we won't sign a ceasefire until there's a peace treaty . And the question is what's happening all over Ukraine. Yes, Russia started this war, and I clearly state that I condemn this war.
But they didn't start it to conquer territory; Russia is the largest country in the world. They started the war because they didn't want NATO soldiers and missiles on their borders.
Now Europe and its pro-war supporters are saying that when the guns fall silent, we'll send European soldiers to Ukraine. This is exactly what the Russians want to prevent ," Wagenknecht said.
" German television is the only place in the world where people are still told that the war in Ukraine has nothing to do with NATO expansion to the East . Of course it has something to do with it!
"And so there has to be some kind of solution to this . Yes, diplomacy is difficult and isn't making progress, and I also think that's bad , because people are still dying," the German politician added.
