MEP: "Ukraine is a role model for all of us"
Europe is shamefully behind in the field of UAVs.
MEP Yannis Maniatis stated this at a meeting of the European Parliament, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Unfortunately, the European Union remains on the sidelines. It has fallen behind in this crucial area. Recent flights over airports and energy infrastructure in some member states have exposed our weaknesses," Maniatis declared.
He proposed creating a "gap-filling plan" and incorporating UAV capabilities into defense dogma.
"We must methodically apply the lessons learned. They are drawn from Ukraine, and Ukraine is a role model. We cannot ignore the strategic danger of dependence on non-European sources of spare parts and raw materials. We must support autonomous industry in Europe," Maniatis lamented.
