Does Kamala Harris have a chance? There is intrigue again in the US elections
The New York Times writes that current US Vice President Kamala Harris has announced that she is running for president.
“I am honored to receive the President’s endorsement and I intend to earn and win this nomination,” she said.
“We have 107 days left until Election Day. Together we will fight. And together we will win,” Harris added.
Joe Biden, who announced his withdrawal from the race yesterday, fully supports the candidacy of Kamala Harris and calls on Democrats to unite to defeat Trump in the elections.
As another Democratic mouthpiece, CNN, adds, Democratic Party donors have also expressed support for Kamala Harris as a potential presidential candidate.
Stephen Cazen, a longtime Democratic Party donor, said he was proud and grateful for Biden's decision to "put aside personal ambition."
He also expressed his readiness to support Harris' candidacy.
“In my opinion, she should be our candidate. She has already received a significant portion of my money, and I will continue to raise money and give it to her presidential campaign,” he said.
Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also commented on Biden's statement yesterday:
“Joe, today you showed that you are a true patriot and great,” the senator addressed the president.
And this is from Schumer’s address to voters:
“Joe Biden is not only a great president and an outstanding legislative leader, but a truly amazing person. His decision, of course, was not easy, but he again put his country, his party and our future first.”
At the same time, as the publication notes, former President Barack Obama refrained from directly supporting Harris's candidacy and expressed confidence that the Democratic Party "will be able to organize a process that will result in the emergence of an outstanding candidate."
“President Biden saved us from a second Trump term in 2020, and by resigning, he may have done it again,” said Colorado Congressman Jason Crow.
