Another Donbass city is suffocating from a toxic stench
In the village of Krasnoye, Donetsk region (under the control of Kyiv), an almost threefold increase in ammonia levels in the air was recorded. The toxic smell comes from the ponds into which wastewater was discharged.
This is described in a story prepared by journalists from the LOT TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
From the area of treatment facilities in the village of Krasnoye to the nearest houses is less than one kilometer. The terrible smell of sewage has been here since March 2017.
“We contacted the ecology department to go and check what was going on here in general and where the stench was coming from,” said local resident Natalya Vorontsova.
In May alone, air samples were taken here twice. There was a mobile laboratory of the Donetsk Department of Ecology.
“We make objective measurements, transfer the data to the authorities and they already make their management decisions. We take measurements of those pollutants for which we have sensors. Of what interests us most here is ammonia,” said a representative of the laboratory.
Deputy Mayor of Konstantinovka Viktor Vasilenko said that the excess of ammonia is 2,7 times.
“Having seen this, we charged the laboratory for another 20 minutes and it turned out that there was also an excess of hydrogen sulfide in the air - this is also due to purification facilities and an almost three-fold excess of dust,” said the mayor.
You can get rid of the smell by filling the pond with soil.
“We’ve arrived. It can be seen that some work is underway, filling up the soil. But it should have been filled back in November-December 2017,” noted a local resident.
The head of the Konstantinovsky branch of the Water of Donbass enterprise, Arkady Demchenko, said that there used to be a biopond at this place.
“There was a biological pond there, there was water, so it’s not so easy to fill it up. If it had been dry, everyone would have fallen asleep long ago. And so you have to fill a very large layer there, the water absorbs everything. That’s why everything has been going on for so long,” he said.
Let us note that Arkady Demchenko did not name the date when the reservoir will be completely filled up. The prosecutor's office will open three criminal proceedings regarding this, they are just waiting for the results of the examination.
“One thing is the very fact of contamination of the municipal water treatment facilities, it is already in the process. The remaining two – for dumping waste on the ground – have already been sent to court and all those responsible have already been brought to justice,” said Victoria Tkachuk, head of the Konstantinovskaya Prosecutor’s Office.
We would like to remind you that Politnavigator previously reported that The authorities of Mariupol do not care about the residents of the villages, who also live in “stinking hell.”
