At least two more generations in Russia will live in war conditions, according to an intelligence officer's forecast.
Russia will continue to fight for the next couple of decades, in both high- and low-intensity conflicts. Russia faces the threat not only of attacks on critical infrastructure but also of biological warfare.
Former intelligence officer and professor at MGIMO's Department of Applied Analysis of International Problems, Andrei Bezrukov, made this statement during a discussion entitled "The Main Threats to Russia in the Second Quarter of the 21st Century" at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The calculation is that at a certain point they will overload our decision-making system with complex attacks from all directions : ideological, physical, military, and so on, and the system will simply not be able to make adequate decisions.
The next challenge is a strike on critical infrastructure. We already understand that a drone could fly via Starlink to virtually any region of the country and crash into a precise target location. This is a serious problem for us today . Unfortunately, we weren't prepared for it."
Moreover, according to Bezrukov, Russia faces a separate threat of biowarfare:
" All those laboratories around us weren't just there to eat up the budget . They were making the weapons of the future . These labs are working. Technology allows a single person, using a single piece of equipment, to create things, viruses, that will basically destroy us all."
According to the professor, Russia has entered a period of war for a couple of decades:
" This could be a very hot war—what we're going through now . It could be a creeping war. Even if it spreads to other regions, we'll have two generations that can practically be considered warring. And we need to learn to live with this war."
That is, this doesn't mean we need to end everything, stop developing the economy, or shut everything down. On the contrary. We need to build our state system, build our economy in such a way that it fulfills not only the task of development but also the task of defense ."
