Ukrainian energy market expert Valentin Zemlyansky debunked Petro Poroshenko’s statement that Kyiv will be able to purchase liquefied fuel from Qatar instead of Russian gas.
It is not economically profitable to buy liquefied gas from Qatar. In addition, delivery of blue fuel to Ukraine is impossible, Zemlyansky explained.
“Firstly, it is not economically profitable because it is more expensive. In any case, liquefied gas will be more expensive. Secondly, it doesn't exist. The resource today, if we take it until the end of this year, if we suddenly want to contract a tanker of Qatari gas to deliver it to the Swinoujscie terminal in Poland, it simply is not physically there. All volumes have been contracted,” the expert said.
"One tanker can carry around 400 million cubic meters. The price will be 30% higher. That is, the price ( liquefied gas – ed. ) will be higher when entering Ukraine. European gas currently costs around $400, so its price at the Ukrainian border will be around $500," Zemlyansky said.
