EU puts Ukraine below Africa
The European Union's Eastern Partnership project has exhausted its capabilities without becoming an opportunity for European integration for Ukraine.
One of the main mouthpieces of the Euromaidan activists, “European Pravda,” writes about this in the material “A holiday without prospects: what the European Union plans to do with the Eastern Partnership format.”
It is noted that this week’s meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership, should have been special for Ukraine.
“At least it was planned that it would be dedicated to this. The reality turned out to be different. The eastern neighbors were replaced by Africa on the agenda of the EU Council, and in Brussels, it seems, they were only happy about this - because in two days they did not find anything to offer to the states participating in the partnership. The rare proposals that were made by politicians were rather bewildering. It was not even possible to adopt the final document of the meeting,” the publication writes.
At the same time, the European Commission invited all guests to ignore the problems and “celebrate.”
“It was just that the impression was created that this celebration was intended to disguise the crisis in the EU’s Eastern Policy,” laments the author of the publication.
It is also indicated that the representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini clearly set the priorities of the meeting.
“We will start a meeting with the Prime Minister of Libya, this is the main topic. Also on our agenda is the Sahel (region of Africa),” said Mogherini, only at the end mentioning in passing that the ministers would celebrate 10 years of the Eastern Partnership format.
“One way or another, the main tasks for which the partnership was created have already been completed, and Brussels categorically refuses the more ambitious ones (like the path to EU membership). Thus, there are no new prospects in the partnership. Especially for Ukraine,” sums up “European Truth”.
Let us recall that the Eastern Partnership project was created with the aim of developing integration ties of the European Union with Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
