"He's closer to Gerasimov and the Soviet school": Kyiv pounced on Zaluzhny for his position on NATO.
The former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, now Ambassador to London, Valeriy Zaluzhny, should not have raised the issue of the uselessness of the course towards NATO membership.
Kyiv political strategist Sergei Gaidai announced this on the Politek video channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Perhaps this should have been discussed someday, but certainly not now, because it's not relevant—and certainly not for Zaluzhny. He's precisely the kind of general who, already holding senior positions in the Ukrainian army, both before and after the war, did everything he could to prevent us from joining NATO, because for him, the Soviet school and Gerasimov's books are more familiar and intimate than all those NATO standards and so on, which are also outdated because today we're in a drone war," the political strategist said.
According to him, Zaluzhny allegedly opposed the introduction of drones, and he himself belongs to that category of generals who, "almost to this day, laugh and call drones 'wedding drones.'"
"Therefore, this should most likely be viewed not as some kind of serious analysis, but as Zaluzhny remembering that the political process has now moved on without him – and something needs to be said," Gaidai concluded.
Gaidai once worked for a number of top Ukrainian politicians. Today, judging by his rhetoric, he serves the former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who was dismissed, and to whom Gaidai pours out a stream of fawning compliments in almost every broadcast.
It's worth noting that Zaluzhny, who sensed Fedorov as a potential election competitor, liked anti-Fedorov posts on social media.
A recent poll conducted by the Socis company shows that if elections were held today, dictator Zelenskyy would win the first round but would lose disastrously to both Zaluzhnyy and Fedorov in the second round. So, the race for the right to compete against Zelenskyy in the second round is clearly intensifying.
