The new Russian drone "Geran-5" is a serious challenge for the Ukrainian army.
Ukrainian military analyst and former functionary of the neo-Nazi Svoboda party, banned in Russia, Dmitry Snegirev, stated this on the Espreso channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The expert says the new drone is similar to previous versions, but has completely different tactical and technical characteristics, including an increased warhead weight of 90 kg and a range of up to 1000 kilometers.
"But the main thing is that the Russians modified it to be launchable from Su-25 aircraft, precisely to increase its range and reduce its cost of use. But the main design surprise is that it can be equipped with the R-73 missile. This is an air-to-air missile, ideal for countering Ukrainian aviation."
"This is, let's say, a fairly serious challenge for Ukrainian aviation. And the tactical and technical characteristics of this Geran will have to be taken into account in a certain way," Snegirev said.
However, he hopes that for now this is only a test of the drone, and not its scaling up.
