"This is costing the Russians dearly" – Rutte boasted of impunity for attacks on the shadow fleet
Unpunished pirate attacks by Western countries on the "shadow fleet" are costing Russia dearly.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte spoke about this at the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee in Brussels, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I am very pleased that we are increasingly posing strategic dilemmas to the Russians in the context of the Baltic guard service.
We saw what the Americans did to the Russian flagship off the coast of Iceland, and we saw many other interventions, including from France,” Rutte said.
“And I think that when these ships pose a threat to the environment, when there are serious questions about whether the vessel can continue to sail without damaging critical underwater infrastructure, there are ways to intervene.
And they are already producing results, forcing the Russians to increasingly actively defend their shadow fleet, which, of course, is costing them dearly ,” he added.
