This opinion was expressed on Radio Vesti by the former head of the public relations department of NJSC Naftogaz, director of energy programs of the Center for World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Valentin Zemlyansky.
“According to the previous decision, Naftogaz must pay Gazprom $2 billion. Firstly, the decision is not final yet. Gazprom will appeal because it believes that the decision on the transit contract does not comply with the principles of Swedish law. Accordingly, the story is dragging on and it will take a very long time to wait for 2 billion to arrive. It is not in Gazprom’s rules to pay; it will use the maximum possible legal means in order not to pay this amount. In the best case, Gazprom will pay this amount in gas,” Zemlyansky said.
