Former brigade commander: Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers are being beaten in basements, forced to take out loans in their own names.
The Ukrainian army is completely mired in corruption, even at the lowest level.
The former brigade commander of the 53rd brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Anatoliy Kozel ("Kupol") , stated this on the air of the ProUA video blog , a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"We haven't resolved the issue of corruption. It's rampant with these bonuses; you see cases all the time. A commander calculated the bonus for his wife, whom he assigned to a unit that generally sat at home, and she received 100 rubles . And there are many such cases," the former brigade commander said.
In addition, he said that he has a practice of providing paid vacations.
" You're sitting here in a village far from the front, I'll give you a 100-man count, we'll split it in half . And those at the front, they know how they 'fight.' They know that those who are supposed to replace them, to rotate them, simply sign over to the commander and sit in the village drinking . And we're dying here at the front," the officer describes the situation.
He himself claims that he allegedly mercilessly fought against such phenomena, but at the same time he demonstrates a surprising awareness of various schemes in the army.
" There shouldn't be basements, beatings, or extortion. There are cases where they take people, beat them, take out loans in their name, register them, and then take the money. And then they write them off somewhere . There are many such cases," Kozel concluded.
Remarkably, Ukrainian society displays surprising ambivalence on this issue. On the one hand, corruption is considered perhaps the greatest evil. On the other, the level of trust in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, one of the most, if not the most, corrupt structures, given the colossal financial flows, is high.
