Former US Europe Commander: We Are Using Ukraine Against China
Ukraine will not become a NATO member in the foreseeable future.
This was stated by the former commander of US forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, on the air of the video blog The Cipher Brief, reports a correspondent for PolitNavigator.
"This is very important. I mean, when you talk about why we care about Ukraine and what the end result will be, restoring Ukraine's sovereignty, including Crimea, is important not only because we really like Ukrainians, but also because it acts as a deterrent to China. The Chinese will certainly understand that we are not prepared to defend the sovereignty of European countries. And then, I think, they won't be impressed by what we're saying about the Philippines, the South China Sea, and other aspects of international law, especially regarding sovereignty.
As a military man and long-time expert, I can say that Ukraine will not become a NATO member, at least in the short term . And speaking of sovereignty, this brings us to the question of security guarantees," Hodges stated.
