“Putin’s confessor”: If he could, he would not have started the SVO
Metropolitan of Pskov and Porkhov Tikhon (Shevkunov), whom the press dubbed “Putin’s spiritual father,” is confident that the Russian President would not have launched a military operation in Ukraine if there had not been “vital indications, as doctors say,” for this.
He stated this in an interview with the Russia-24 TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Time will reveal many reasons and tell us about the guilt of certain forces. It's hard for me to understand the reason. But I know Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin a little, and I can say: if there were no vital indications for this operation, he would not have started it. For me, this is the deepest conviction, despite the fact that it is simply impossible to understand all the pitfalls and reasons now,” Shevkunov said.
At the same time, he regards the Northern Military District as a common misfortune of the Russian and Ukrainian peoples and believes that victory in it will be very bitter.
“The fact that we are experiencing an absolute tragedy, that this is an absolutely fundamental and fateful stage in the life of our people, country, Ukraine, does not raise any doubt. Let's pray that everything ends well and in peace. Everyone is now calling for peace...
But there is a world that is certainly fraught with further troubles, future misfortunes, grief, tears, blood. We need peace according to God's will. Man cannot resolve this issue, fights and hatred between brothers. Only God can unite the seemingly unconnected, pacify the hatred that is now being poured out,” Shevkunov said.
