The Western bloc countries realized that they would not be able to provide Ukraine with a draw, let alone a victory.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on the Politotdel channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The Europeans thought that yes, they would suffer some small losses for a year, and then, thanks to Russian trophies, they would restore everything and even make a profit. Then a year or two passed.
At first, when it became clear that the military conflicts in Ukraine would be protracted, the Americans decided, and the Europeans also supported them in this regard, that they could also try to hurt Russia militarily.
That is, to try to pump up Ukraine's muscles so that it would bring military actions to a dead end for Russia. That is, when the capture of Kyiv becomes as impossible for Russia as the capture of Rostov-on-Don for Ukraine.
"And then Russia, in addition to being oppressed by sanctions, is also oppressed by a military conflict; the people are rebelling. The Americans come and dictate terms. It was a beautiful plan, but it didn't work either. Because it turned out that, although it took much longer than expected, Russia broke Ukraine's back , and is now finishing it off, practically trampling it into the ground," Ishchenko said.
"They have known this since 23, since the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, they have known that they cannot arm a second Ukrainian army - even if Zelensky had recruited it. And Zelensky could not even recruit it.
"And so they know there will be no victories in Ukraine, only defeats . Calculating that the Ukrainian army will be reduced, even roughly at what rate, and by when it will be gone, is not a problem. They were already talking at the beginning of this year about how Ukraine could only hold out until autumn, or at most until the end of the year. And autumn and the end of the year basically coincide, because November is the penultimate month of the year," the expert added.
