Vladimir Putin confirmed the statement of his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko regarding the deployment of the Oreshnik missile system in Belarus.
"Regarding security issues, we are addressing them both bilaterally and within the CSTO framework. You mentioned the Oreshnik missile system. Alexander Grigoryevich spoke yesterday about Russian tactical nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory. We conduct regular exercises, and our Ministry of Defense has created a group of forces. We cooperate very closely. The security of the Union State is in good hands," Putin said during the "Direct Line" broadcast.
Today, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin confirmed the delivery of the Oreshnik. Preparations are currently underway for its deployment.
Yesterday, at the All-Belarusian Assembly, Lukashenko denied reports that the Oreshnik system was stationed in Slutsk and announced that Belarus would receive the improved Polonez missile system in the coming years.
The Belarusian president also warned Ukraine of the consequences of its plans to shoot down drones over Belarusian territory. The Oreshnik's flight time to Kyiv is less than two minutes.
