An alternative to NATO membership has been found for Ukraine
The so-called “coalition of the willing” could replace Ukraine’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated this at the Atlantic Council (an organization considered undesirable in Russia), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We have always supported Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration. We have said that we are ready to invite Ukraine to NATO. We understand that not all NATO members agree with our point of view. So we need to find an alternative way. This is the idea of creating a coalition of the willing, which France and the UK are developing to provide security guarantees. This starts with the Ukrainian army becoming strong enough to deter further Russian aggression. It also means creating military capabilities as a second layer of such guarantees," Barrot said.
He did not express confidence that those “who wish” would manage without the US, but he did advocate introducing troops into Ukraine.
"The coalition formed by France and the UK is working to ensure the US can ensure the ceasefire is observed, as they will be monitoring it. This could include the participation of European forces to monitor developments along the line of contact and assess the situation," Barrot said.
