Diplomat: Warsaw is waiting for a request from Kyiv to send troops
Poland may well find an excuse to send its troops into the territory of Western Ukraine.
This was stated by former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and former UN Deputy Secretary-General Sergei Ordzhonikidze, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
In his opinion, Poland would like to send troops to Western Ukraine.
“Instead of helping to treat the patient, they begin to cut him and solve the problem surgically. It’s not difficult for them to find a reason to send in troops - they’ll come up with some kind of regular shootout and say that they were attacked. They began maneuvers, and this is usually a harbinger. Since they are moving troops, it means they can move them anywhere, in the direction they need,” the diplomat told Izvestia.
At the same time, he makes a reservation that he does not know whether Warsaw has enough political determination and military courage in this matter.
“If they plan to send troops under the pretext of “protection from Russian aggression,” in this case there should be an appeal from the Ukrainian government to the Polish government with a corresponding request. I wouldn't rule out that option either. A UN member state recognized by the international community can apply,” Ordzhonikidze believes.
He draws attention to the fact that in order for a contingent to receive peacekeeping status, a decision of the UN Security Council is necessary. The publication’s interlocutor also added that in this case, much will depend on Moscow’s position.
