Rada deputies called off the war and went on vacation
For a month and a half, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada frightened Ukrainians with tension on the borders and the Russian offensive in January, but this did not stop them from having a long New Year holiday.
Kiev political scientist Andrei Ermolaev said this on air on the Ukrlive TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Verkhovna Rada voted that from January 17 to 21 it will also work in committees, that is, in fact, people’s deputies continued their vacation for another week and will gather for the 7th session on January 28. Everything seems to be according to the law here - people’s deputies work in committees, commissions, TSK, but how should they? Should I work in plenary mode? – asked the presenter.
“Parliamentarians have the right to decide in what forms they can work. Here I am worried about something else, so that under the guise of non-plenary work, they will not now run off to the islands and resorts. It would probably be right if, after the enormous tension that we experienced throughout November, early December, in connection with threats and cries about tension in relations with the Russian Federation along the border, threats associated with possible military events, the parliament created a form of some kind of then workers’ control,” the expert said.
“I’m not talking about plenary-session work now, I’m talking about some kind of standby mode of factions, some kind of coordinating committee or permanent council of factions, in which either their leaders or their deputies could work, that would be logical,” - noted the political scientist.
“The second point is that this can reassure our fellow citizens - if parliamentarians are so calm and confident that 5 weeks can be passed, excuse me, this means, what kind of war is there? This means that we were fooled for a month and a half,” added Ermolaev.
