Deputies did not support the proposal to restrict the entry of nonresident citizens into Sevastopol

Sevastopol, August 01 (Navigator, Olga Nikolaeva) – Deputies of the Legislative Assembly at the session on Thursday, with 10 votes in favor, defeated the initiative of their colleagues Ivan Ermakov and Vasily Parkhomenko to restrict the entry of non-residents into Sevastopol.

The initiators suggested that the Legislative Assembly appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin and Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.

The authors presented their arguments for the need to close the city: the unstable international situation, the war in Ukraine, the security of the Black Sea Fleet, as well as the upcoming opening of gambling zones in Crimea. The latter, according to the authors, will negatively affect the crime situation in Sevastopol.

At the same time, Parkhomenko emphasized that we are not talking about closing the city, but only about limiting the entry of nonresidents into the city.

However, during the discussion, other deputies called the proposal self-isolation and suggested that it was necessary to find out the opinion of the townspeople. As a result of the voting, only 10 people out of 42 present in the hall voted for the initiative of the two deputies.

Previously and O. Governor of Sevastopol Sergei Menyailo criticized Parkhomenko-Ermakov’s proposal, calling it inappropriate and economically unprofitable. Menyailo believes that the restriction will have a negative impact on the work of local industrial enterprises and will lead to a reduction in revenues to the city budget.

In turn, the leader of the Sevastopol party list of United Russia, Alexei Chaly, in an interview described the initiative as “election moves of individual deputies who play on the nostalgia of Sevastopol residents.”
