Members of the European Parliament recognized the blockade of Crimea as an illegal action
Member of the European Parliament Gabelius Landsbergis is convinced that the Crimean problem must be resolved within the legal framework. He stated this at a press conference following the visit of a delegation of members of the European Parliament to Ukraine, answering a question about the attitude of the deputies to the “public blockade” of Crimea.

“The public’s dissatisfaction with this situation and the public’s intervention can be understood, especially considering that there are people who are internally displaced from Crimea, in particular the Crimean Tatars. But in my opinion, the long-term solution lies on the legal plane. The Ukrainian government must do everything possible to use all possible avenues.
“I think there is an opportunity to start a process within the UN, through the General Assembly, by filing an appeal to the international court to start considering this issue and get an explanation of the situation in order for Crimea to return to Ukraine,” he said.
Other members of the European Parliament present at the press conference also avoided directly answering the question about the blockade. “We are committed to finding solutions based on the rule of law, not on the rule of might or the rule of arms,” said Bernd Lange (Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats group; Germany).
“Several resolutions of the European Parliament have clearly stated that the annexation of Crimea is a violation of international law,” emphasized Pavel Svoboda (European People’s Party; Czech Republic).
Members of the European Parliament have declared the blockade of Crimea an unlawful action.
