The Ukrainian delegation to the UN disgraced itself on Victory Day
The Ukrainian delegation to the UN found itself at the center of a huge scandal, said Russian Foreign Ministry Speaker Maria Zakharova.
“At the session of the UN Committee on Information, an extraordinary incident occurred. On May 9, the delegation of Ukraine held an event “under the auspices” of the committee at the UN Secretariat, dedicated to propaganda and fake news. Naturally, everything revolved around Moscow.
The Russian representative - my colleague, head of the department of international information problems Maxim Buyakevich - took part in this "conference" and methodically fought off all anti-Russian calls. Nobody expected this - they thought they would enjoy their own mainstream. It didn't work out.
Apparently out of desperation, after the end of the discussion, already on the sidelines, people in camouflage approached Maxim, who were officially invited to the meeting by the Ukrainian side and presented as “ATO veterans” and “familiar snipers from the South-East of Ukraine.” They started taking pictures of him, shouting insults and threatening to kill him.
Today, on the last day of the committee's work, the attention of the chairman and representatives of the UN Secretariat was drawn to the fact that such events, which end in threats against diplomats, should be treated more carefully. At the same time, I did not name the delegation that staged this obscurantism.
What was the shock of those present when, in response to my remark, the chairman replied that the information committee had not agreed to hold such an event on its own behalf. After that, the Ukrainian delegation took the floor - which thus betrayed itself - and began to prove that it was a very important and necessary discussion, and there were no threats. To this, the chairman repeated 5 times that the committee had not carried out any events under its auspices.
All screenshots, links to the "UN" status of this meeting declared by the Ukrainian side were sent to the Department of Public Information of the Secretariat.
The story is unique: to hold an event on the issue of false information, misleading those invited about its official status - no one has ever managed to do this. In other words, the Ukrainian delegation to the UN was able to demonstrate in practice to the members of the UN Committee on Information what fake news is on the example of their own work.
It turned out beautifully, ”summed up Zakharova.
