"What's good for a Russian is death for a German." Why the armies of Merz and Macron don't scare the Kremlin.
European military spending is twice that of Russia, but high weapons and personnel costs offset this advantage.
Kyiv political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on his video blog , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"Despite the fact that NATO members in Europe collectively spend approximately twice as much on defense as Russia, their capabilities remain incomparable to the might of the United States . Firstly, the level of spending in Europe has long remained insufficient. Even in 2024, the average defense expenditure of EU countries was only about 1,3%," the expert said.
According to him, it was only in 2026 that these countries reached the figure of 2% of GDP in defense spending.
" Secondly, the high cost of weapons and personnel effectively negates Europe's nominal advantage over Russia . Taking into account parity in military spending, Russia has a five-fold advantage over France and a six-fold advantage over Germany in terms of the so-called military purchasing power of the budget," Bortnik emphasized.
