Donbass could return to Ukraine according to the Transnistrian model, with economic integration without political reunification, but time is against the Kyiv authorities, which, in the end, could lead to actual recognition of Donbass independence by the world community.
Kiev political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov said this on the YouTube channel “PolitWera”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“What is the “Transnistrian model”? The predominance of Russian capital in the region, economic integration into Ukraine without political integration. In fact, the issuance of passports reinforces this scenario, pushes towards this scenario. However, five years have already passed, another five years will pass, another 10 years. Well, at one point some next American “Trump” will say: “But this is Donbass, not far from the Golan Heights, well, according to the map there’s a lot there, Lord, well…”. There is legitimization by time. Or when there is de jure non-recognition, but de facto recognition, for example,” the political scientist noted.
He also emphasized that Ukraine has forgotten how to solve problems diplomatically and explained, using the example of Crimea, why the Kiev authorities do not know how to learn from their mistakes.
“Ukrainian diplomacy ended in 2014. After all, if you remember, Ukrainian diplomacy ended at the moment when, in fact, Russia’s ultimatum on Crimea, which was supposed to lead to the return of Crimea to the 1992 Constitution, autonomy, but de jure within Ukraine. When he was ignored with the question: “What, are ours there?” And this was a failure, because it was necessary to at least, firstly, answer something, enter into negotiations, say: “This is unacceptable, we are ready to discuss this, but we have our own proposals,” - this is diplomacy , do not stop the process.
If you stop, it means it was taken away from you. It was necessary to understand that at that moment the lesser evil for Ukraine was the return of the 1992 Constitution, which, so to speak, was planned in the first referendum, and it was necessary to agree to it. And then we passed,” Dzhangirov concluded.
