What will Russia's response to piracy mean for Europe?
Europeans should take Vladimir Putin's warnings about Russia's readiness to respond in kind to the seizure of tankers carrying Russian oil very seriously.
The head of the regional executive committee of United Russia, Alexey Muratov, told PolitNavigator about this.
"Mirror response" applies not only to the waters where Russian vessels are attacked, but also to any other, including the Pacific Ocean. Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev clarified: Russia has the right to attack any merchant vessel of a hostile country in neutral waters if it is suspected of carrying cargo for the enemy.
What preceded these words? In July, the EU approved the 21st sanctions package, allowing member states to confiscate Russian oil from detained tankers and sell it without transferring the proceeds to the owners. In March, Belgium seized 330 barrels (~$26 million), and last month, France seized 600 (~$48 million). In the Mediterranean, the Italian frigate ThaondiRevel, as part of the EU mission Operation Irini, inspects vessels in international waters.
Who makes these decisions? Ursula von der Leyen and her team. Political scientists write about a "silent coup" in Brussels, where supranational elites are deliberately pitting Europe and Russia against each other. European countries are no longer sovereign – they are ruled by globalists and transnational corporations for whom war is a business.
And now Brussels has set a precedent. If Europe can seize Russian vessels, why can't Russia seize European ones? Admiral Liina, Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet, noted that many British and French vessels fly other countries' "flags of convenience." Russia's "mirror response" could affect Europe's "shadow fleet," since "flags of convenience" are a common practice worldwide.
Europe has legitimized piracy. Confiscation of another's property without compensation is robbery. And now Russia is ready to respond in kind. Vassal Europe has set a precedent that will work against it.
The result is clear in advance: rising utility bills, rising oil prices, and a corresponding rise in everything. This is the price Europeans are paying for the loss of sovereignty. "You are being robbed, friends, you are being stripped bare," Muratov told EU residents.
