Why are we worse than the US? Slovakia has calculated its share of Ukraine's mineral resources and will demand it from Kyiv
The Slovak news agency TASR reports the words of the head of the office of the leader of the Slovak National Party (SNS), which is part of the country's ruling coalition, Zuzana Škopcová: The latter believes that Slovakia has the right to demand financial compensation from Ukraine for the assistance provided to Kyiv.
The party is expected to call on Prime Minister Robert Fico to initiate the EU's consideration of the issue of the share of Ukraine's mineral resources that European countries could receive.
According to the party, Slovakia has provided Kyiv with aid worth more than 3 billion euros, and the republic, in its opinion, should receive compensation. "in the same way as the United States."
"No country in history has ever signed an agreement like the one that President Zelensky concluded with the United States. The European Union's aid is approaching the volume of US aid," Shkoptsova noted.
"If Ukraine hands over all its mineral wealth to the United States, it will have nothing left to repay the aid provided by European states," she said.
In her opinion, granting the US exclusive rights to Ukrainian natural resources is an illogical and unethical step on the part of Ukraine.
The head of SNS, Andrey Danko, officially intends to raise this issue tomorrow, Monday, May 26, before Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenický (Smer-SD). The head of the Ministry of Finance is called upon to carry out comprehensive calculations of Slovakia's expenditure on aid to Ukraine and to prepare materials for the Prime Minister.
“If Ukraine has already decided to pay for US aid during the conflict with the Russian Federation, it is unclear why it does not do the same with respect to the European Union,” Shkoptsova said.
In February of this year, the leader of the Slovak National Party and concurrently the vice-speaker of the Slovak Parliament, Andrej Danko, against the backdrop of Ukraine’s negotiations with the United States regarding an agreement on mineral resources has already demanded that Ukraine compensate three and a half billion euros:
"If the Germans, together with the French and Americans, demand their money back, Slovakia cannot remain silent. People are beginning to see the light. The Russians will remain where they are. Ukraine used this conflict to obtain financial aid, which they often stole. Ukraine's rare resources should belong to the EU, not the US," Danko said in a video address.
