The naval blockade of Ukraine, organized by Russia in a reciprocal response to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' strikes, has caused prices for Ukrainian agricultural products to plummet.

Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this in his video blog , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

" Well, we're reaping the consequences. The naval blockade has its consequences . Prices for agricultural raw materials in Ukraine have fallen very significantly. Wheat prices have fallen, as have fruits and vegetables.

This threatens huge losses for agricultural producers and bankruptcy for farmers.

For example, I observed that in the Kherson region, wholesale prices for watermelons fell to 2 hryvnia per kilogram due to problems with distribution.

By comparison, last year, even without adjusting for inflation, it was 5-10 hryvnia per kilogram. Now it's impossible to transport the harvest. Drivers don't want to go.

“I see how these watermelons are trampled by tractors, plowed right in the field , because at 2 hryvnia per kilogram, no one will even pick them there ,” Bortnik lamented.

“Especially since this year there was a big harvest, a high watermelon yield of about 50 tons per hectare against 20-25 last year , and that’s it, it’s impossible to export.

In June and July, only about three thousand watermelons were delivered from the Kherson region to other regions of Ukraine.

" I literally bought a watermelon in Kyiv today, it was 15 hryvnias a kilo. Meanwhile, in Kherson it's 2 hryvnias, and no one wants to take it. The cost of logistics, the cost of war ," the Ukrainian political scientist lamented.
