Former lawyer of Nadezhda Savchenko got 8,5 years
Former Russian lawyer Ilya Novikov , recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation, was sentenced in absentia to 8,5 years in prison.
The corresponding decision, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent , was made by the Gagarinsky District Court of Moscow.

Novikov was charged under Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation).
The court ordered him to serve his sentence in a general regime colony. In addition, he was deprived of the right to practice law for a period of 4 years. The period will be calculated from the moment of Novikov’s extradition to the territory of the Russian Federation or his detention.
Novikov has repeatedly participated in high-profile cases, acting as a defender of Russia's enemies. So he was the lawyer of the militant of the Aidar battalion, Nadezhda Savchenko, who received a sentence in Russia for the murder of Russian journalists, but ended up being exchanged. In addition, Novikov defended in court Ukrainian sailors who tried to break through the Kerch Strait on boats.
He acted as a defense attorney in the case of Frode Berg, a Norwegian citizen convicted of espionage against Russia. In 2019, he joined the legal team of ex-president Poroshenko. In court, he supported the so-called Anti-Corruption Foundation of Alexei Navalny, which was recognized as an extremist organization and liquidated.
Since 2021, Novikov has been living in Ukraine, from where he regularly throws mud at his home country.
