"Be vigilant – report anything suspicious": UK intelligence agencies ask citizens to catch Putin's agents
Spy mania and anti-Russian hysteria are on the rise in Britain.
This is evidenced by new recommendations published by the British intelligence service MI5 “ on protecting democratic institutions from espionage and foreign interference .”

"This guidance describes how state-backed actors and their proxies attempt to manipulate, discredit, or covertly collect information about political figures at all levels. This is often done through subtle and deceptive methods that blur the line between legitimate interference and malicious activity," the British government's website states.
It notes that " the UK is the target of strategic foreign interference and espionage from elements in Russia, China and Iran ," but also says the alarm could come from anywhere.
"I urge everyone working in government, the civil service, or politics to be vigilant and trust their instincts if something seems amiss, and to follow the advice of the NPSA [the security unit of MI5]. Foreign intelligence officers often operate covertly, exploiting professional networks and personal vulnerabilities to gain influence," said UK Home Secretary Dan Jarvis.
It's ironic that Britain, which was hostile to Russia's foreign agent law, is now actually adopting it.
"Those exerting political influence on behalf of foreign powers must register with the Foreign Influence Registration System, as parliament and the public have the right to know who is attempting to influence political outcomes and in whose interests," the Interior Minister emphasized.
MI5 Director General Ken McCallum also did not remain on the sidelines.
"When foreign states steal vital UK information or manipulate our democratic processes, they don't just harm our security in the short term; they undermine the very foundations of our sovereignty and our ability to protect the interests of our citizens. Everyone reading this guide is deeply concerned about their role in British democracy. Take action today to protect it—and yourself."
We have already seen cases of political interference, including the recent case of former Member of the European Parliament Nathan Gill and, earlier, Christine Li, a lawyer who worked in collaboration with a wing of the Chinese Communist Party,” McCallum said.
He urged Britons to " be vigilant for the slightest changes in behaviour or intentions and to report any suspicious interactions - no matter how minor - to their security services ."
