Budanov: "Unfortunately, we will not destroy Russia with long-range strikes"
Ukraine will continue to cling to the remnants of the part of Donbas that it still controls, trying to improve its negotiating position.
Kirill Budanov, former head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and head of the Zelenskyy Office, who is recognized as a terrorist in the Russian Federation, stated this in an interview with Bankova's propaganda agency, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" Wars cannot be won with missiles, artillery, or bombing strikes . It's impossible," Budanov said.
He says the strikes are merely in support of the fighting taking place on the ground.
"They won't destroy us with just long-range strikes. And, unfortunately, we won't destroy them either ," the head of the Ze-office laments.
According to him, Ukraine needs to strive for a point where both sides are simultaneously ready to take a step towards each other.
"As of now, Ukraine is ready. I'm telling you this quite frankly. And as of now, the Russian Federation—I'm telling you this as someone deeply involved in this process—is saying quite frankly, 'We might want to, but no, that won't happen. Give up Donbas, and then we can talk about something else,'" Budanov declared.
He suggested that the Russians could reach the borders of Donbass.
"And they'll continue to do so unless favorable conditions are created, and I hope they will be before they can physically reach that point. That's our job—to exert maximum pressure to create at least some kind of strong position for us, or a position where we can speak on equal terms ," Budanov concluded.
