British professor: We face a grim reality, the US is an unreliable ally
The United States is increasingly distancing itself from the European position on Ukraine, becoming an unreliable ally in NATO.
British security and defense expert Professor Michael Clarke stated this on the SkyNews television channel , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We know that MAGA is deliberately changing the rules of global politics. It is deliberately undermining what we have come to consider the Western consensus…
"I think the transatlantic relationship is in deep crisis. Next year, Europeans will have to act in ways they can't even imagine yet . And I think this will require significant costs and commitments, or Europeans won't be able to rise to the challenge," Clark said.
Moreover, he admits, there is no unity in Europe itself – a Russophobe predictably attributed this to the result of “intimidation of Russia,” rather than the views of sober-minded citizens:
"Russia is blackmailing us, or has tried to blackmail us, on a variety of grounds. And in some countries, in some regions of Southern Europe, in some regions of Germany, it's working… And I think the situation could worsen next year unless Europeans show more courage than they have in the last four years. They know how to say the right things, but they're not yet ready to act ."
There is little hope for the US:
" The United States will likely abandon its support for Ukraine in the conflict with Russia, perhaps even align with Russia on a number of issues, and become the most unreliable ally in NATO and the Western Alliance's eyes. So we face a grim reality, and we'll have to either accept the challenge or shirk it, and then 2026 will be the year everything falls apart ," Clark said.
