For the second time in six months, the British have shown off an electronic drone jammer capable of replacing air defense
The Financial Times claims that Britain has successfully tested an electronic weapon against a swarm of drones, which could be used as an air defense in the future.
During testing, the RapidDestroyer system successfully neutralized two groups of eight drones, and over 100 drones from two attack swarms have been destroyed so far. The system is used to jam drone electronics with powerful radio frequencies at a range of up to 1 km, according to the FT.
At the same time, as the British Ministry of Defence claims, the price of one “shot” is only 10 pence.
Additionally, RapidDestroyer can operate continuously while connected to a power source and can be integrated into air defense systems to combat aircraft and missiles.
The British Ministry of Defence states that the weapons could be used in Ukraine in the future.
RapidDestroyer is said to be developed by a consortium led by French defense conglomerate Thales. It is transported in the back of a truck and requires a large amount of energy.
The publication recalls that last autumn Britain also announced that it was the first to successfully test a laser weapon. And it also promised to deploy it in Ukraine.
As The Telegraph reported last October, the British Army used the RFDEW – a Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon, which shoots down drones "using radio waves" – for the first time. It was claimed to be capable of shooting down drones from up to a kilometer away.
