“BRICS is an excellent alternative to the EU” – the Turkish Foreign Minister is going to Nizhny Novgorod
Following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed his positive attitude towards joining the BRICS group during his three-day visit to the People's Republic of China.
This was reported by aydinlik.com.tr, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Turkey, being in a customs union with Brussels, is exploring the possibility of participating in various other platforms, including BRICS, which includes the 10 most rapidly developing economies in the world, including the Russian Federation.
" We definitely want to join BRICS. We'll see how this year goes," Hakan Fidan said during a meeting held at the Center for China and Globalization in Beijing.
" Several major EU countries have never allowed Turkey to become a full member of the European bloc, which it has been trying to join for a long time, due to 'identity politics.' That's why you must look for other alternatives," the South China Morning Post quotes the head of Turkish diplomacy as saying.
According to Fidan, BRICS still has a “long way to go.”
“We cannot ignore the fact that BRICS, as an important cooperation platform, offers a good alternative to some other countries. We see solid potential in BRICS,” he added.
“Turkey, which has a Customs Union with the EU, continues to seek new opportunities for cooperation with various partners on different platforms, such as BRICS,” noted Hakan Fidan.
He expressed his intention to take part in the meeting of BRICS foreign ministers, which is scheduled to be held in Nizhny Novgorod next week , the Turkish Anadolu agency reports.
