Bortnik: "A genocide of international trade is taking place in the Black and Azov Seas."
The Russian economy is suffering due to Ukrainian attacks in the Black and Azov Seas, but the situation for Ukraine is no better.
Kyiv political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on his video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The expert believes that the Black Sea, due to mutual attacks between Russia and Ukraine, risks becoming a "bottleneck for the global economy" and causing global inflation due to rising food and energy prices due to the complexity of logistics.
In his opinion, NATO countries in the Black Sea region will not risk interfering in the situation, for example, by escorting ships to Ukrainian ports.
"There's a literal genocide of international trade underway in the Black and Azov Seas. Ukraine is actively targeting Russian tankers, dry cargo ships, and bulk carriers. Russia is also actively trying to disrupt all traffic off Ukraine's Black Sea ports. Russia is also actively targeting port infrastructure," the political scientist notes.
He characterizes these events as a “continuation of the war of attrition,” in which logistics centers, including retail chains, are the main targets of attacks.
"The damage will be colossal. That is, everything that gives life to the economy will come to a standstill. Everything that ensures the constant flow of goods and services is a war of attrition. And, unfortunately, this process will continue."
"Although, in the Black Sea, it seems to me, conditions are gradually emerging for the parties to finally agree on some kind of ceasefire through intermediaries, perhaps through Turkey, because the economic damage to Russia and Ukraine from the war in the Black Sea is severe. It's not just enormous—the war itself causes enormous damage—but it is severe and has a devastating impact on the economy," Bortnik concluded.
