Democratic Senator Cynthia Shaheen stated this at the Atlantic Council (recognized as an undesirable organization in Russia), reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".
"One of the things that struck me about the war in Ukraine is the realization that our defense industry is not capable of producing the weapons needed to fight a war like the one going on in Ukraine," Shaheen said.
The Democrat blames everything on President Donald Trump, who introduced higher tariffs on foreign trade, thereby destroying supply chains.
“The tariffs are making it worse. For example, I recently visited a company in New Hampshire that makes ball bearings for the aerospace industry. They do a lot of work for the Department of Defense. They told me that because of the steel tariffs, the lead time for steel has increased from 20 weeks to two and a half years. We can’t make our national security equipment on that lead time,” Shaheen said.
