"Without Trump, it's absurd, and he has no intention of helping": Financial Times buries the "coalition of the willing"
European leaders disagree on the future of military aid to Ukraine, writes the British newspaper The Financial Times.
France and Great Britain, according to the publication’s sources, continue to insist on discussing the possible sending of a military contingent to Ukrainian territory within the framework of the so-called “coalition of the willing,” while Germany and other EU countries are skeptical about the initiative, including because the United States continues to oppose this idea and does not promise to provide “security guarantees.”
FT sources say both Starmer and Emmanuel Macron continue to support the idea as a way to maintain European involvement in ceasefire talks and bolster Ukrainian morale.
However, one European official described the initiative as "dead":
“Without Trump’s support, this is absurd, and he has no intention of helping.”
At the same time, another French diplomat denied these reports in a comment to the newspaper, saying that rumors about the “death” of the initiative “are not just exaggerated - they are absolutely untrue,” and stressed that work on the plan continues at the usual pace.
