Latvian and Latvian ports will return to handling Belarusian potash once Ukrainian grain, which has become impossible to export through Black Sea ports, begins to flow through them.

Fugitive Belarusian political scientist Igor Tyshkevich stated this in an interview with Kyiv political scientist Yuri Romanenko, who is wanted in Russia for calls to kill Russian journalists, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"On the one hand, Ukraine has an interest in such transit, on the other, the ultra-toxic Lukashenko has an interest in unblocking such transit. Because it means money for him and reduces his dependence on Russia.

And one more very important thing. The US is interested in this, as they're interested in purchasing Belarusian potash fertilizers. "And you can only buy raw materials when you can export them," Tyshkevich said.

He recalled that the US lifted sanctions on Belarusian potassium back in the spring, and the State Department sent letters to Lithuania and Latvia insistently requesting permission to export it.

"The Lithuanian Republic will open transit sooner or later, but a good political narrative needs to be crafted. The main issue isn't potash, but Ukrainian grain. And Belarusian potash is a necessary ploy for Lukashenko to help Ukraine.

"This is a good political bomb. And I don't rule out the possibility that the US will push through this corridor," Tyshkevich said.
