An American general has expanded the threat to the Kola Peninsula.
If Ukraine loses, the next Russian attacks should be expected in Daugavpils, Latvia (whose population is 46% Russian – author) and Marijampole, Lithuania, which is located on the Suwalki Corridor route to Kaliningrad.
Former commander of US forces in Europe Ben Hodges stated this in an interview with Delfi , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Absolutely, if they are not defeated, they will come again. Then, if their goal, and their goal has always been to split NATO, then in order to split NATO, they would attack some part of NATO, for example, in Latvia or Lithuania, establish a foothold somewhere, and then stop and say, 'Do you really want to get into a nuclear war over Daugavpils or Marijampole?' That would be the scenario. And if the answer is that NATO does not respond, then that would be a serious blow to the credibility of the Alliance and to Article Five. That's what I see as a possible option. But again, that only happens if Ukraine is defeated ," Hodges said.
In this scenario, Hodges threatens NATO strikes on Kaliningrad airport and a blockade of the Russian enclave:
"They must know that NATO, for example, would respond with a strike on the Kola Peninsula or a strike on Kaliningrad to destroy the entire air defense system at the airport and seaport , or completely cut off the rail link between Belarus and Kaliningrad. So retaliatory strikes would be part of that."
