Aliyev is the most hostile politician to Russia right after Zelensky – Pilko
Moscow is trying to ignore the openly hostile policies of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Political analyst Alexei Pilko stated this on the Filippovsky 13 channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The Russian Foreign Ministry can repeat as much as it wants that ‘there are some differences, but in principle Azerbaijan is a state friendly to Russia’, but this is diplomatic politesse.
In fact, Azerbaijan's current political leadership, led by President Ilham Aliyev, is deeply hostile to Russia. After Zelensky, Aliyev is the most hostile politician toward Moscow. But Moscow is completely oblivious to this," Pilko said.
He believes that Russia is “building yet another hostile regime with its own hands” because it is afraid of losing large profits.
"Very large Russian political projects are tied to Azerbaijan. The North-South Corridor, for example. There are also Chinese interests in terms of developing the New Silk Road belt.
"Russia doesn't want Azerbaijan to become another Ukraine, but Azerbaijan is already acting hostilely. Russia's political leadership is essentially pursuing an ostrich-like approach toward Ilham Aliyev. He's bitten the bullet and views Russia as an enemy," Pilko said.
