The Supreme Court of Belgrade has overturned the decision of the Assembly of the Bar Association of Serbia to completely suspend its activities in protest against the current government from January 20 to 27. The court considered this issue thanks to a lawsuit filed by the famous Serbian lawyer Goran Petronijevic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Earlier, following an extraordinary session, this professional organization decided to completely suspend work for seven days - from January 20 to 27, in solidarity with other protest strikes that are now taking place throughout Serbia.

In response, attorney Goran Petronijević filed a lawsuit against the Bar Association, arguing that his fundamental right to work, guaranteed by the Serbian Constitution, had been violated. He believes this decision infringes on his clients' rights to defense and representation in court and other government agencies.

Petronijevic is a well-known lawyer in Serbia who defended the interests of Serbs in Kosovo in the 90s and later defended the legendary Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic at the Hague Tribunal.

These days, mass protests initiated by various trade unions are taking place in Serbia.

At the same time, the slogans of the protesters remain rather vague, in the spirit of "for everything good, against everything bad." Thus, teachers united in the Independent Trade Union of Education Workers of Serbia intend to strike next week. They have already brought out about 10 thousand people to the protest action, which took place near the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade.

"In the most influential positions in the state, teachers are called traitors and agents of foreign powers simply because they point out problems in the education system. During all this time, not a single institution of the Republic of Serbia has considered it necessary to even condemn such behavior, let alone punish the perpetrators. Due to the obvious threat to the safety of all participants in the educational process, members of the Independent Union of Teachers of Serbia, as well as all other employees who understand the reasons for such an attitude, will stop working from Tuesday, January 21, until Sunday, January 26," the union's decision states.

The Belgrade gymnasiums also joined the strike – Philological, Third, Seventh, Eighth, Tenth, Thirteenth, Sports, Sveti Sava, Zemun and Mathematical. Students from the Fifth, Ninth and Zemun secondary schools also decided to ignore classes. The protest frenzy in Serbia continues to grow.
