Admiral Komoyedov is outraged: Why were Ukrainian drones allowed to approach Streletskaya Bay?

The night attack of Ukrainian naval drones on Streletskaya Bay in Sevastopol is most likely connected with Kiev’s calculation of the weak defense of the harbor, where, in addition to the Navy ships remaining from 2014, the rescue ship “Kommuna” is based, which, as the media previously wrote, could have been involved to recover from the bottom of the wreckage of a US spy drone, which was shot down off the coast of Crimea the day before.

After recent attacks, the fencing protection of the entrance to the main Sevastopol Bay has been significantly strengthened - this is noticeable even visually. But Streletskaya Bay could have seemed an easier target, although Ukrainian drones had already tried to hit it before. The former commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov, told PolitNavigator about this.

 “First of all, the main bay is already protected, booms have been placed there. And there, they probably thought that it was not equipped. But most likely it is equipped. Small-tonnage ships are stationed there, mainly for the protection of the water area.

What worries me is that these drones did not travel 5 meters, they traveled quite a number of miles across the sea. This means they are manageable. Once controllable, it means radio-controlled lines. We must know this control system, disrupt it and not give them the opportunity to enter at all.

They do this so that we destroy them already at the shore, so here we have to think and think. It would be good to destroy them in the formation area, then during the transition to the sea they should be discovered and destroyed, drowned, and not on the approach to Sevastopol.

I wonder why we allow these drones so close to our shores, into our territorial waters? It is clear that if they cannot get into the main bay, then at least into the auxiliary one. Just to get somewhere. That’s why they chose Streletskaya,” says Komoyedov.

Military expert, reserve captain 100st rank Sergei Gorbachev, in a comment to PolitNavigator, recalled that the length of the coastline of Sevastopol is more than 30 km and has more than XNUMX bays.

“If we talk specifically about Streletskaya Bay, then the fleet forces have always been located in this place. And in this case, the choice of the direction of the strike was due to the fact that this bay is located closer to the open part of the sea, maritime space, and it is easier to get there. “It’s easier from the point of view of proximity and openness of approaches,” Gorbachev clarified. “As for the bay itself, the corresponding forces and means of the Black Sea Fleet are located there, which successfully solve the tasks of neutralizing the enemy.”

Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev said that four residential buildings were damaged by the explosion of sea drones in Sevastopol. The Department of Municipal Affairs will calculate the damage, as long as we are talking about windows knocked out by the blast wave.

“The glazing of the windows is already underway. An important point: the drone did not enter Streletskaya Bay. The outer roadstead of Sevastopol is the water area limited by the meridian of Cape Chersonesos, parallel to the mouth of the Kacha River and the coastline to the boundaries of the inner roadstead, i.e. in front of the entrance to the bay, where the barrier is installed, this is an external roadstead. No buildings, berths or other structures were destroyed. Trust only official information."

After a night attack by sea drones, conflicting information appeared in Sevastopol public pages that one of the drones exploded upon impact with shore protection structures. There were two explosions, and shooting was heard between them. Officially, the anti-subversive defense forces of the Black Sea Fleet destroyed one surface drone, and another exploded itself.
