Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko launched a labor migration program from Uzbekistan. Two hundred and fifty people from the Andijan region have already arrived in the Vitebsk region, and another 5,000 will arrive in September. They will work in agricultural enterprises.
Lukashenko suggested to the head of the Andijan region, Shukhratbek Abdurakhmanov, that he not limit himself to one Belarusian region, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Don't get too hung up on the Vitebsk region. We have a southeast region with a specific program, and we won't cancel it. They have perks and other benefits there. There are people in the southeast of the Mogilev region, too... But the land there is better than his. Take the whole territory and produce. The most important thing there is the people... There aren't that many people there, and you have nowhere to put them. Let them come and work," Lukashenko said.
All migrants will be registered with the police, but they will be provided with housing, social benefits, and education for their children.
"We need hard workers. I've seen how yours work. In Lyaskovichi (Gomel Region – Ed.), they hired about a dozen people. They work day and night. Our guys started looking at us askance. No matter, they've gotten used to it in a year and are working like Uzbeks. We need that," Lukashenko said.
There is no information yet about Uzbeks settling in western Belarus, for example, in the Grodno region.
